A three-day fair, a village festival, an end-of-season tournament, Saturday deliveries. When you take payments away from the shop, the terminal has to work anywhere, with no surprises. Here’s what to look for.
The 4 features that matter
- Built-in SIM: you don’t depend on the organiser’s Wi-Fi, which is often slow or overloaded. 1pay.ch terminals include the SIM in the monthly price.
- A battery that lasts the day: plus a base or cable to recharge between shifts.
- Light weight: for deliveries, a compact model without a printer fits in your pocket.
- Every method: cards, TWINT and wallets on the same device, so you never have to tell anyone “no TWINT”.
The checks to do before every event
- Charge the terminal the night before.
- Make a CHF 1.- test transaction.
- Make sure your staff know how to use it (two minutes of practice are worth a calm day).
- Bring a plan B: a printed QR code or Tap to Pay on your phone, which accepts cards, wallets and even TWINT with a QR created for the exact amount.
The simplest plan B
A printed QR code has no battery and doesn’t depend on the terminal’s signal: the customer pays with their own connection. Always keep one in your bag.
