QR codes for donations: the collection box that works without cash

Fewer and fewer people carry coins. A QR code for donations turns every event, refreshment stand or flyer into a collection point: how it works and where to put it.

Poster saying

It happens at every party: someone would like to leave a contribution for the association, looks in their wallet and only finds a card. “Next time,” they say. With a QR code for donations, next time becomes now.

How it works

You create a donation form and turn it into a QR code. You print it and put it up where people pass by. Anyone who wants to give scans the code: with the TWINT app they donate straight away with TWINT, with the phone camera they open the donation page and choose between TWINT, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. You get a notification, the donor gets a confirmation.

No box to empty, no coins to count, no device to charge.

Where to put it

  • On the “classic” collection box, as an alternative to cash.
  • At the refreshment stand and at the entrance to matches, concerts and parties.
  • On the event flyer and poster.
  • On the tables at the club dinner, next to the menu.
  • On the back of the programme for the show or tournament.

The detail that makes the difference

Write under the QR what the donation pays for: “Every franc goes to the children’s summer camp”. A bare code gets ignored, a code with a reason gets scanned.

What it costs

On the 1pay.ch Starter plan the QR code is free and there is no monthly fee: you only pay a small fee on the donations you actually receive. For associations with higher volumes there is the Nonprofit plan, with lower fees. The features are the same on every plan.

A real example

A sports club puts the QR on the tables at its summer party with the words “Help us buy new football goals”. People who have already paid for dinner in cash often add CHF 10.- or 20.- from their phone. That is extra money raised, without anyone walking around with a collection tin.
