Subscriptions: automatic recurring payments

Monthly fees, weekly lessons, annual membership: with subscriptions the customer pays once and later charges happen by themselves. You do not have to chase anyone.

Where you can create a subscription #

  • Pages: create a product of type Subscription or choose the Subscription payment type.
  • Paylink: choose Subscription under payment type, for a specific person.
  • Donation: offer weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual donations.
  • WooCommerce, with the 1pay.ch plugin.

With which methods #

With the Pay provider, subscriptions work with TWINT, PostFinance Pay, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Other methods such as purchase on invoice, crypto and Klarna accept single payments only.

What the customer sees #

  1. They choose the subscription (if there are several options).
  2. They enter their details and payment method.
  3. They pay the first amount.

For each subsequent charge they receive a confirmation by e-mail. On their payment page they can see the charges and cancel if they wish.

Managing subscriptions #

You will find them all under Payments > Subscriptions: who pays, how much, how often and the status. You can also end one from there. In Notifications you choose who is told when a charge fails or you end a subscription.

If a charge fails #

This happens, for example, when a card has expired. The customer receives an e-mail. The best thing is to contact them and ask them to update their payment method.

Variable amounts? #

If the amount changes every month (for example by usage), the classic subscription does not fit. Use tokenisation through the API: your system decides when and how much to charge.
