Cards remain essential, especially for tourists and customers from abroad. With 1pay.ch you accept Visa and Mastercard (credit and debit) and, with Pay Plus, also American Express, Diners Club and Discover.
Where to activate them #
- Visa and Mastercard: with the Pay provider or with Pay Plus (with one of the two only).
- American Express, Diners Club, Discover: with Pay Plus only.
- Click to Pay: with the Pay provider. The customer pays without re-entering card details if they have saved them with Visa or Mastercard.
Go to Payment providers, click Configure and activate the card icons.
What you can do with cards #
One-off payments, full and partial refunds, pre-authorisations and tokenisation. Subscriptions work with Visa and Mastercard active with the Pay provider.
Security: 3-D Secure #
For many online payments the bank asks for confirmation in its app or with a code. This is 3-D Secure: it protects the customer and you too, because it reduces fraud disputes. If the person does not confirm, the payment is marked Declined.
Swiss and foreign cards #
For the card networks, what counts is where the card was issued and where you are. A Swiss card in a Swiss business is a «domestic» payment, the cheapest for the system. Cards from Europe or the rest of the world cost the networks more. Your actual fees are those of your plan: you will find them in Fees and plans.
The name on the statement #
In the Pay configuration you choose the text the customer sees on their card statement: 5 to 18 characters, capital letters, numbers and a few symbols. Use a name that is instantly recognisable: it is the simplest way to avoid disputes.
